Holy Anointing
Holy Anointing is the sacrament through which the Church prays for God’s healing, comfort and strength for those who are seriously ill or facing the challenges of frailty. Another name for the sacrament is the Sacrament of the Sick – it is a way of encountering God’s love in times of need.
Holy Anointing is often administered to the dying, which is why it is sometimes known as the “Last Rites” but the sacrament is by no means exclusively for the dying and requests for anointing should not be delayed.
In our parish, Holy Anointing is administered during Mass twice a year, in Advent and Lent. These occasions are publicised in advance so that anyone who wishes to be anointed can attend.
Twice a year Fr Benedict visits all the sick who are unable to come to Mass and administers Holy Anointing to them.
If you, or someone you care for, would like to receive Holy Anointing, please contact our parish priest, Fr Benedict, directly. He will be happy to answer any questions and arrange for the sacrament to be administered.
