The Sacrament of Confession

Confession is the sacrament through which we encounter the mercy of God in a personal and healing way. In this sacrament, we honestly acknowledge our sins, express our sorrow and receive God’s forgiveness through the ministry of the Church. It is a place of grace, where relationships are restored and where we are strengthened to begin again.

This sacrament is known by several names. It is called the Sacrament of Reconciliation because it reconciles us with God and with the Church, the Sacrament of Penance because it involves repentance and a desire to change, and Confession because we name our sins before God with trust and humility. What is said in confession is protected absolutely by the seal of the confessional – a priest may never repeat or disclose anything heard in confession, under any circumstances.

First Confessions

A child usually makes their First Confession as part of their preparation for First Holy Communion, learning from an early age about God’s mercy and forgiveness and the importance of forming a good conscience.

When can I go to confession?
